We haven’t seen Trevor Noah on The Daily Show since it was announced he’d be taking over as host when Jon Stewart leaves the show. Either that was the plan all along, or he’s laying low following the disappointment (or rage or indifference, depending on you personally reacted) many of us felt after those old cringeworthy tweets were brought out.
So why then would the show bring Noah on, only to give him a SUPER awkward cameo, with zero build-up and even less payoff? Noah shows up in the middle of a segment about prison reform to give tips to correspondent Hasan Minhaj, and the whole thing falls flat. Now, I’m not saying we should judge Trevor Noah’s entire hosting potential by this segment. That would be ridiculous.
It might be nice, though, to have something to base it on.
