When Martin Freeman hosted Saturday Night Live back in December of 2014, it was overall a better episode than the show usually churns out these days. But if you remember, the episode had one flat-out perfect pre-taped sketch. The mashup of The Hobbit and the original British Office was truly one sketch to rule them all.
This is most definitely the best thing SNL has done since 2013. I have trouble making a definitive claim going back farther than that, because few things have been more impressive to my mind than 2013’s “(Do It On My) Twin Bed.”
Because the sketch was a taped segment, that means there’s some unaired bonus footage that’s just been lying around, and now SNL has released it for us to giggle over. First we have Bobby Moynihan and writers Streeter Seidell and Mikey Day talking about the sketch, with some nice behind-the-scenes tidbits.
And here’s a few minutes of previously unaired footage, including Moynihan’s full dance number and way too much of Taran Killam eating an actual raw fish.

Can SNL please just rerun this sketch for 90 minutes a week? That would be preferable to the normal show, wouldn’t it?
