Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel Honor Joan Rivers the Best Way Possible: By Being Really Mean to Each Other
Last night Sarah Silverman stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to
listen to him make awkward jokes about their romantic history talk about Joan Rivers. Silverman considered Joan a friend and a mentor, so she’s clearly, as she puts it, “broken inside.” Together, the two pay tribute to Rivers in the most fitting way possible: by tearing apart each other’s appearance. It’s what she would have wanted.
And here’s a bit from Jimmy’s monologue, where he talks about Joan and shows a clip from her last visit to the show.
And here’s what a few of her peers/friends/admirers said by way of tribute.
.@Joan_Rivers was a dear & wonderful friend who I've known for 45yrs. Great guest, pal, comedian & mother. We will never see her likes again— Larry King (@kingsthings) September 4, 2014
Joan Rivers never played it safe. She was the bravest of them all. Still at the top at the end. She will be sorely missed.— Mel Brooks (@MelBrooks) September 4, 2014
Joan… She is the ONLY person that could make me laugh long enough & deep enough to make me wet myself Melissa thanks for sharing her…— Whoopi Goldberg (@WhoopiGoldberg) September 5, 2014
Joan Rivers once told me she would die before she'd ever apologize for a joke. I'm glad she made it.— Anthony Jeselnik (@anthonyjeselnik) September 4, 2014
Bye, Joan. You were the real, nasty, raw deal. Love. #RIPJoanRivers— marc maron (@marcmaron) September 4, 2014
RIP Joan Rivers. Trailblazer, legend, hilarious. She literally made us laugh until the end.— Larry Wilmore (@larrywilmore) September 4, 2014
RIP Joan Rivers. Being publicly told that my dress is hideous will never feel quite as awesome. You will be truly missed.— Anna Kendrick (@AnnaKendrick47) September 4, 2014
Too much to say. A constant source of encouragement for me years before anyone else gave a damn. A full and fabulous life. Love you, Joan.— billy eichner (@billyeichner) September 4, 2014
Joan Rivers has died. What a sad ending to a brilliant and tragi-comic life; one of the bravest, and funniest of all.— Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) September 4, 2014
No matter how mean @Joan_Rivers pretended to be for the joke. We, in the audience, always saw her pure heart. Bye Joan my friend and hero— Penn Jillette (@pennjillette) September 4, 2014
Condolences to Melissa Rivers, whose house we visited a few weeks ago to spend an hilarious hour, In Bed with Joan. pic.twitter.com/gY0p2Qfh7P— Simon Pegg (@simonpegg) September 4, 2014
Goodbye, Joan. You deserved a louder death. #RIPJoanRivers— Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) September 4, 2014
I told Maron I'd have a zinger when Joan died. But I didn't think she ever would. She felt eternal, and anyway, zingers are her territory.— Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) September 4, 2014
That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it's made of polyurethane.— Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) September 4, 2014
