Rainn Wilson’s proposed follow-up to “The Office” is another in a long line of defective detective shows. This one, called “Backstrom,” hasn’t been picked up by CBS yet, but Wilson, in an effort to build buzz, tweeted what those in the industry call a “sizzle reel.” Which, as far as I can tell, is just a very long trailer. Does it look any good? Enh, it looks alright. As I mentioned, Wilson seems to be trying to distance himself from the Dwight Schrute character by adopting a gruff Dr. Gregory House persona. And it’s not as if Dwight was a charm factory. In better news, Wilson is joined by both Mamie Gummer (“The Good Wife,” “Emily Owens,” “Meryl Streep’s Loins”) and Dennis Haysbert (“24,” “All-State Commercials,” “My Dreams”). Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
