Newly Respected Kelly Ripa Returns to 'Live,' Puts a Fork in the Drama
The drama that has taken place over on Live with Kelly and Michael the last few days — since Michael Strahan accepted a full-time job at Good Morning America without telling Kelly Ripa — seems to be over. Kelly Ripa returned this morning, addressed the audience, and spoke about the importance of communication and respect.
More importantly — to her, anyway — is that Live with Kelly and XXXXXX is not going anywhere anytime soon.
“I want to honestly, sincerely thank you for welcoming me back to the show. The show of support through this bizarre time has been really overwhelming. I needed a couple of days to gather my thoughts after 26 years with this company. I earned the right. And let’s be honest, I know half of you called in sick to be here today, so we get each other. In that time, I gained some perspective … I didn’t want to come out here and say something that I might regret.
What transpired here over the course of a few days ha been extraordinary, in that it started a much greater conversation about communication and consideration. And most importantly, respect in the workplace. And since we are being honest, I don’t consider this just a workplace. I consider this a second home, and not just because of you — our loyal viewers — but because of all the producers and crew who work on this show. WE have an incredible team. We are incredible devoted to each other. We are family. Apologies have been made.
And the best thing to come out of this, you guys, is that the network has assured me that Live is a priority. There is a commitment to the show, to the people that work here, and to the viewers.
I am thrilled for Michael. This is a tremendous opportunity. I couldn’t be and we couldn’t be more proud of everything you’ve accomplished.”
And then Strahan said some nice thing about Kelly Ripa and they resumed their normal routine.
Drama over. It was fun while it lasted.
