Where Are the Missing 'Yellowjackets'?

The first season of Yellowjackets comes to an end this weekend and it has been a wild and brutal ride so far. The series has already been renewed for a second season, so whatever happens at the big reunion we will get to see these women (and their girl selves) again. Because of that, I don’t expect to get all the answers about what happened to them in the woods over 19 months tomorrow night. But there is one question I think will be at least somewhat addressed: Where are all the OTHER Yellowjackets?

As noted in a previous piece, there were 18 people standing around the graves in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Including Coach Ben, who was not standing, that’s 19 people who are crammed into that little cabin. But each week that drags on it seems like there are fewer and fewer girls actually pictured. Are they wandering off and getting lost? Falling into old wells? The only confirmed death we have in the woods so far is Laura Lee and her unfortunate flight to oblivion (I am not so deep in the rabbit hole of the show to think she survived) and the only person we know for SURE never made it back to New Jersey is Jackie, given that her parents have been inviting Shauna and Jeff over for a yearly remembrance/negging session on her birthday. Was Jackie the person who was eaten? Roxana has some thoughts about that. But my question is: what happened to everyone else?

We’ve got a handful of other named characters who are obviously going to be the main players in whatever emotional drama is coming, but that still leaves about ten people that have been kept just out of sight. Six other people were with Misty when the mystery girl was eaten, and we don’t know if that happened soon before they were rescued or if that was their first winter in the woods. What we do know is there’s going to be a pretty brutal winnowing coming, and that there are enough people in the mix for both cheap thrills (how affecting will it be to watch the deaths or murders of girls who haven’t spoken this entire season?) and some very affecting moments with the characters we do know.

Could we see some other survivors at the reunion in the final episode? I hope so! But if we don’t then it’s going to be a pretty bleak winter in season two.
