— Mike Schur, the tender-hearted Poscaster and creator of The Man on the Inside and The Good Place, is re-teaming with Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) to adapt Kate Myers’ bestselling book Excavations for Peacock. The show, called Dig, which will center on four women (including one played by Poehler) “working at an archeological dig in Greece who are at wildly different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”
Hugh Laurie will star as the male lead, “a British professor who sincerely loves archaeology and strives to uphold the traditions of this dying profession. He fancies himself an inspiring mentor to everyone who works at the site.” Schur and Poehler co-wrote the script with Schur’s wife, J. Philbin (daughter of Regis).
— My two favorite comedy showrunners are Mike Schur and Bill Lawrence, the latter of whom also announced a new series, this one for Prime Video. Amanda Seyfried — who is not apologizing — will play the lead in another Bill Lawrence adaptation of a Carl Hiaasen, this one Skinny Dip. Seyfried will play Joey Perrone, “whose second anniversary didn’t go quite as planned. She expected earrings, but instead, her husband Chaz had, shall we say, alternate plans. After unexpectedly finding herself on the other side of those plans, she vows to get revenge. Teaming up with a disgraced ex-cop, Joey sets out to make Chaz pay.” Lawrence also adapted Hiassen’s Bad Monkey starring Vince Vaughn for Apple TV.
— Speaking of Apple TV, whether we wanted one or not, we’re getting a second season of Idris Elba’s Hijack. Here’s the trailer. This time, it’s a subway train that gets hijacked.
— In January, Netflix will bless us with His and Hers, a murder mystery starring Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson. This is precisely my stuff.
— More than two years after the first season debuted, Peacock is finally returning with the second season of Ted, which hits the streamer in March. The first season was surprisingly great. Also, here’s the first look.

— The Lincoln Lawyer will return to Netflix for its fourth season on February 5th.
— Finally, Josh O’Connor will be hosting this week’s SNL. I like Josh O’Connor (Wake Up Dead Man, Challengers), but I suspect that ratings will be similar to those of Paul Mescal’s. Their popularity is niche.
