Even though they had a perfectly serviceable character to follow after the Dexter revival in his son, Harrison, Showtime/Paramount+ is nevertheless moving ahead with its prequel, Original Sin. I like the cast they have assembled so far, including Christian Slater — as young Harry Morgan — Molly Brown (the manic pixie dream girl from The Bear) as young Debra Morgan, and Patrick Gibson (The OA) as young Dexter. They’ve now added Patrick Dempsey to the cast. He’ll play Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide. He has a decades-long relationship with Harry.
A few hours after I wrote yesterday that Kevin Costner should quit bellyaching about Yellowstone and just officially call it quits, Kevin Costner … officially called it quits. “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue season five B or into the future,” he said on Instagram.
Riz Ahmed is returning to television in an untitled comedy on Amazon, which he co-created with The Daily Show writer Ben Karlin. Ahmed will play “a struggling actor on the cusp of landing the role of a lifetime, only to find himself thrust into a full-blown existential crisis and trippy conspiracy thriller all at the same time.”
Peacock is making a John Wayne Gacy series, Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy. It comes from Patrick MacManus (The Girl from Plainville, Dr. Death), and Michael Chernus will play John Wayne Gacy. Some may know him from Severance, Orange is the New Black, or Dead Ringers, but to me, he’ll always be best known for Patriot.
I finally caught up on Twisted Metal a few weeks back, and it was more fun than I thought it would be. I’m glad to see Anthony Carrigan (Barry) join the cast as Calypso.
Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer are boarding Mid-Century Modern from Ryan Murphy and Will & Grace co-creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. It’s being compared to Golden Girls and described as an “even gayer roommate sitcom” than Will & Grace.
Our man Rahul Kohli has joined the cast of Prime Video’s We Were Liars opposite Mamie Gummer, and along with Caitlin FitzGerald, Candice King, David Morse, and Emily Alyn Lind. The series is adapted from the YA novel by E. Lockhart. It’s a love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts.
