Suffering from the ‘serious actor, please take me seriously hair,’ Tom Holland looks to clear the air following 2022’s disastrous Uncharted adaptation with the Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room. He’s a good actor, and he’s got the hair to prove it.

In all seriousness, aside from some true miscalculations in his career (the aforementioned Uncharted, whatever the hell the Russo Brothers thought Cherry was), Holland is a strong actor. He’s just a strong actor who has an affinity for picking bad projects and/or has been locked into the Marvel universe. The Crowded Room looks to try and course correct.

Inspired by the book The Minds of Billy Milligan by author Daniel Keyes, the series follows a young man (played by Holland and his wig) who is arrested in Manhattan in the summer of 1979 due to his involvement in a shocking crime. Amanda Seyfried plays the investigator who works to put together the mystery behind it all in order to put a stop to whoever the true criminal is.

A psychological thriller, the cast is uniformly great, from Holland and Seyfried to indie darling Christopher Abbott, Sasha Lane, Emmy Rossum, and more. Created by Akiva Goldsman whose filmography runs the gamut from writing mom favorites A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man to uh, The 5th Wave and The Dark Tower, his involvement is the main cause of alarm (aside from the dead animal adorning Holland’s head.)

Apple TV has mostly put out consistently quality shows, even if some of the streaming services favorites have fallen into a bit of a rut (Ted Lasso, for example.) While the trailer for The Crowded Room is angling to be the next high-brow, prestige television series, it’s the actors that are the main draw, less so the story itself yet.

Really though, just pulling for Holland to have picked a winner after a number of duds. Granted, he’s stated himself in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he didn’t actually read the script before signing on to star and as executive producer, so fingers crossed we don’t just have another Cherry on our hands.

The Crowded Room premieres June 9th on Apple TV+
