I thought we were done hitting milestones like this. It seems like every late-night show has had a moment where they welcomed back audiences. A few shows even welcomed audiences back, only to have to lose them again. There has always been one hold-out. The Daily Show waited until this week to bring back audiences. To celebrate, they sent out correspondent Desi Lydic to have a little fun with the waiting crowd.

People come to The Daily Show for political commentary. They want Klepper talking to Trumpers or Noah grilling GOP pundits. But the show is loaded with funny people, many who got their starts in sketch comedy. When they get a chance to work those muscles again, the results are always solid.

What starts as a standard “who’s happy to be here??” type moment morphs into a solid bit. It’s carried by Lydic, who has become one of The Daily Show’s strongest performers. She started strong, but it feels like she’s been given (or earned) more to do at the show. With so many funny people available at all times, that’s not an easy thing to achieve.

The Daily Show audiences are back! Hopefully for good.
