No one should give my legitimacy to anything that the NYPost’s gossip rag, Page Six, writes, and I’m speaking to myself as much as anyone. I follow everything SNL, so naturally I couldn’t resist clicking a couple of days after Chloe Fineman exited SNL when Page Six ran with the headline, “Exclusive: Chloe Fineman had tension with ‘SNL’ co-stars before exit: ‘Not everyone clicked with her’.”
OK, first off: Not everyone clicks with everyone in every workplace. Do you think I get along with TK? He’s been reviewing films here for, like, 15 years, and that jerk still kicks my metaphorical chair every time he walks by my metaphorical office. And don’t even get me started on Dan and Tori. We’ve been recording a podcast together for six or seven years now for a listenership of 12, but it’s really just an excuse for those two to relentlessly mock me for an hour every week. There’s no “clicking” there! Just the raging animosity I feel for two people who constantly shoot down my conspiracy theories.
“Chloe could rub people the wrong way at times,” our insider said. “She got along really well with some cast members, but not everyone clicked with her.”According to the source, “Some cast members felt like she expected people to accommodate her and assumed everyone would adjust to her schedule and preferences.”
However, the insider noted, “It wasn’t some huge feud or anything like that.”
Wow! What tea! That sounds like every workplace ever, Page Six.
There’s no mess here, and it sounds like the exit was completely amicable. In fact, Fineman basically told Variety as much, revealing that she called Lorne Michaels to give him the news while he was watching England vs. Argentina.
“He was like, ‘I’ll call you back. I’m at the game,’” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘The soccer game?’ Then I made a joke, I was like, ‘I assume you’re rooting for England because you’re energetically very British.’ Then he called me back, and we had a really lovely chat.”
How very messy.
And it sounds like Fineman’s timing was perfect. “Seven years is kind of like the classic way [at SNL], and then like right as my contract was up, this amazing David E. Kelley opportunity came in like completely out of the blue. I did a little chemistry read and it was off to the races; it just felt like a perfect time.”
I love David E. Kelley, and I love to hate Harlan Coben. That’s going to be a real interesting watch for me.
