It’s mid-July and not the end of August or early September, which means that the SNL cast members leaving right now are typically doing so of their own volition. It appears that is the case for Chloe Fineman, who Deadline reports (and Fineman confirms on Instagram) is leaving the comedic institution after seven seasons.
Better still, the impressionist and utility player already has a project lined up, joining Colin Woodell, KJ Apa, and Diane Guerrero in yet another Harlan Coben series, Myron Bolitar, adapted from Coben’s long-running series of thrillers about a sports agent with a knack for stumbling into murders. I don’t know if a Coben series can actually contain someone as expressive as Chloe Fineman. Can she even do stern and wooden?
Fineman is best known on SNL for her celebrity impressions, including Jennifer Coolidge, Meryl Streep, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, Sydney Sweeney, and Anna Delvey, among many, many more.
Many may not remember this, but Fineman actually came up the same year as Bowen Yang and Shane Gillis, although her entrance may have been somewhat overshadowed by Gillis’ quick firing and Yang basically shooting to sketch stardom right out of the gate. She’ll be missed next season, but honestly, seven seasons feels like the sweet spot: long enough to illustrate success, but not so long you overstay your welcome.
