You’re on a press tour for a show you’re promoting. People start setting up cameras in your dressing room at the seventh or eighth stop you must make. You agreed to do something and forgot, or your manager agreed for you and forgot to tell you. Either way, you now have to sit down for a segment (possibly named after one of your films) and talk about popular stuff from when you were first popular. If this sounds like a nightmare scenario, then you can forgive Christina Ricci for rushing through a bit she did for The Late Show.

The Colbert Crew will often get guests to generate some extra content. More often than not, the guests seem game. This did not seem to be the case for Christina Ricci. She’s not mad or unenthusiastic. At the end of the day, she did what she was asked. There was an underlying feeling of, “please, get this over with.” The segment barely clocks in at two minutes (most are usually twice as long), and she whips through the cue cards so fast she’s even caught off guard when she’s finished.

There could be so many reasons why Ricci fires through this bit. They could have been pressed for time. She could have been annoyed that they set up in her dressing room. There’s a chance that the bit happened in her dressing room because they were short on time. Television schedules are tight, especially for a nightly show. I just couldn’t help but feel that Ricci did not want to talk about scrunchies.

But dammit, she did it anyway. Cause she’s a professional.
