This is one of the stranger things The Late Show With Stephen Colbert has ever done. Get it? Moving on.
In the show’s newest episode, David Harbour appeared in a pre-taped sketch that is perfect for the spooky season we find ourselves in. For those who are dealing with the age-old problem of purchasing a truck only to realize it’s haunted, say hello to Kroggett’s Haunted Truck Translation Dictionary. It’s a book that promises to help you understand exactly what your haunted truck is thinking. Whether you like it or not!
Not only is the premise for this sketch wonderfully silly, but Harbour also commits to it fully. He plays it in a way that feels believable. One of my favorite things about late-night talk shows is when they get guests to participate in bits like this. It gives them a chance to step out of their comfort zone or, in the best cases, step right into it.
I love Halloween. So I’m thrilled to see this kind of sketch emerge. We are in a wonderful time of year. A time of year where everyone has permission to talk about ghouls and ghosts and goblins. I wish that was the case all year round, but I’ll take what I can get. Because soon, all of this will go away and be replaced by Christmas stuff for two months.
