In 2007, while making my way through Central Park in NYC (nbd), I passed a tall man with red hair who was wearing a Boston Red Sox cap. I thought nothing of it. Suddenly, the person with me said, “That’s Conan O’Brien!” By the time I looked again, he was close enough for me to confirm this, but far enough away that I could not get to him fast enough without running and therefore looking like a psychopath. I missed a chance at meeting one of my heroes.
Fast forward fourteen years and Conan, on his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, is encouraging people to not only say hi but to yell at him! For the uninitiated, Conan once told a story on his podcast about James Lipton. Here’s the abridged version. The famed host of Inside The Actor’s Studio took Conan to dinner and then pointed out a painting of a nude woman near their table. Lipton then pointed at the painting and said “Kedakai! … As God made her.”
Kedakai was his wife.
The painting was of her.
Since telling the story, Conan has encouraged fans to yell this phrase at him in public. According to the host, it has actually happened quite a bit, which is pretty amazing. This week he told a couple stories about the very occurrence, one taking place while he was standing atop a balcony. Conan seems to relish in his fans yelling this phrase at him … so you know what that means.
Conan, I’m gonna talk strictly to you right now cause I know you’re reading this. Let me yell at you. Please. Allow me to make up for missing the opportunity to talk to you all those years ago. It doesn’t even have to be a full conversation! Just let me yell “Kedakai! … As God made her.” I can yell real good, I swear; just give me a chance!
OK, back to everyone else. I’ll need your help getting this to Conan. Think of this as my own personal My Date With Drew type scenario, just less dependent on the return policy of Radio Shack. Signal boost this. Tweet it at Conan constantly. Let him know that there’s a fan out there who wants to give him exactly what he wants!!!
