Cold Open — It opened with Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries caricatures, which was kind of boring; and then they did the whole cold-open freeze with James Austin Johnson’s Trump again. To be honest, my eyes glazed and I started to drift — the Dems won! Do we really have to watch another Trump cold open this week? With Colin Jost’s Hegseth? My brain tuned it out until the actual James Talarico made a surprise appearance to complain about the Trump cold opens and I felt so seen. (Score: 3 out of 10 for the cold open, 9 out of 10 for the Talarico drop by).
Druski Monologue — Until he was announced as the host, I had genuinely never heard of this guy. But I am not his demo. But it’s kind of fun to watch an SNL where I have zero preconceived notions or expectations. He’s a content creator who makes character vids, so he seems well suited to SNL. He also seems like a decent guy in the monologue, and he brings out Emma Stone to lend him some credibility (they shot a movie together). Works for me. (Score: 6.5 out of 10)
Washington in Focus — A BET news talk show where the Black panelists talk with the white guy from the Atlantic about their new Black Senator from Ohio, Sherrod Brown, and the Black Fed Reserve Chairman, Jerome Powell (the joke is that these guys aren’t actually Black, they just have Black names). It’s a one-joke sketch, but it’s short, so it works! (Score: 6.5 out of 10)
Dru Can See Everything — A You Can See Everything parody but with Druski instead of Nathan Fielder. Druski sees right through the “crazy white lady.” Excellent. Mat sketch of the week. (Score: 8.5 out of 10)
Bubu Mobile — Marcello Hernandez plays one of his Dominican characters, this times with Druski, trying to sell a white guy a phone. Not so much. (Watch Here) (Score: 4 out of 10)
Birthday Dinner — Druski plays a very dramatic woman at a birthday dinner with her female friends who loses it when one of them orders fajitas, pronounced the way some of you mispronounce Pajiba. There’s a lot of energy in this sketch, but not a lot of comedy. (Score: 5.5 out of 10)
MyCornerGuy — Instead of a fitness app that you have to feed all your data to, how about a guy on the corner (who may or may not be homeless) who offers a constant stream of honest commentary on your body? (Score: 7.5 out of 10)
Weekend Update — The political jokes aren’t that funny, but they are about Democrats winning and Republicans losing, so they’re at least satisfying. Then Jeremy Culhane trots out his Elon Musk impression, and it’s accurate in that it’s annoying as hell (watch Here). The back half jokes are decent, except for Che’s Martha Stewart joke, which is choice. And then our favorite recurring SNL characters — two people who just hooked up — return to talk about the midterm elections. (Score: 6.5 out of 10)
She Said Yes — Druski and basically the entire cast perform a very elaborate song called “She Said Yes,” after a guy proposes to his girlfriend. The catch? She said no. Awkward. But also funny. (Score: 7 out of 10)
Wedding Photographers — During a wedding ceremony, the wedding photographers are incredibly aggressive and disruptive, and that’s the whole joke. Not a great one, unfortunately. (Watch here) (Score: 3 out of 10)
Golden Age of Hip Hop — A retrospective on a very lame and weirdly homophobic hip hop group. Bad. (Watch Here) (Score: 3 out of 10)
