I love humble celebrities. It may seem like a low bar, but it’s still difficult to clear. When someone spends most of their time surrounded by sycophants and succubi, it’s easy to get a big head. There is a level of fame and riches that makes it almost impossible to be humble. Look at any billionaire who forced themselves into our lives. Luckily for us, Seth Meyers is not a billionaire.
The host of Late Night sat down with Howard Stern recently to chat. During their interview, Meyers was asked about everyone’s favorite segment from his show, A Closer Look. The Closer Look segments are a blast. They are funny and informative. They can cover many topics or hone in on a small handful. They are also super popular. Meyers knows that, and he could have easily taken the opportunity to toot his own horn. Instead, he shared the praise.
Meyers is quick to point out that a Writer and Producer for the show, Sal Gentile, writes the segments himself (with assistance from Producer Emily Erotas) and then hands them off to Meyers and his Head Writer Alex Baze and they take a pass at the jokes. Still, Meyers makes it clear that Gentile is the master behind the segments. He is also uniquely qualified, as he got his start in cable news!
Seeing Meyers be such a supportive and giving boss makes me feel happy. He has respect for his employees. He gives them credit, even though he could likely get away without doing that. It’s great to know how A Closer Look comes to life, even more so to confirm that Seth Meyers is a mensch.
