Renewals and Cancellations: 'For All Mankind,' 'Paradise,' 'Starfleet Academy'

It’s been a while, but March has been a busy month, so there’s a lot to catch up on. Some of this may fall under the “In case you missed it.” category.

The Bear will return for a fifth and final season this summer on FX/Hulu. That makes sense. It’s still a great show, but a final season will give it the urgency it needs to improve (before it rides off into the sunset).

High Potential will be back for a season three. It’s not as fun as it was in the beginning, as it’s fallen into something of a network procedural pattern, but it still makes for excellent background viewing.

— I finally escaped the 9-1-1 roller coaster, although it has been renewed for a 10th season, along with 9-1-1 Nashville for a second. I watched one episode of Nashville, and it was absolutely wretched.

— Netflix picked up the painfully bland but very popular The Night Agent for a fourth season.

— AMC picked up The Audacity for a second season ahead of its first season premiere. Good cast, lots of potential. Makes sense. It looks fun.

Doc is getting a third season, and because of how popular it is, it’s also getting another rare, 22-episode order from Fox.

Marshals unsurprisingly landed a second season order a week after its premiere, in case you wanted to see what a Taylor Sheridan series looked like without most of the soapy elements that otherwise make Taylor Sheridan’s series (arguably) tolerable.

Paradise has arguably improved upon its first season — it’s maybe the best puzzle box series on TV right now outside of Pluribus — and it’s been picked up for a third season (the second season finale airs next week).

— I lost interest in Cross about mid-way through its second season, but it’s also been picked up by Prime Video for a third.

— I really liked Starfleet Academy, but I was clearly in the minority. It had already filmed its second season, so that’s still coming to Paramount+, but that’ll be a wrap for the series and — for now — the Star Trek television franchise on Paramount+.

Wonder Man may be the best MCU series to date, which is why I was worried it wouldn’t land a second season. Thankfully, Disney+ has given it one. I would love to see that season roll out weekly.

— The fifth season of For All Mankind finally arrives today after a long hiatus. It’s also been renewed for a sixth and final season (and there is a spin-off coming in May, Star City). For All Mankind and The Morning Show are the last two survivors among those shows that debuted with Apple TV. Joel Kinnamon is gonna be so old by the end of this.

Criminal Minds is getting another season — its 20th — ahead of season 19. It’s decent television, but they really should write out Zach Gilford’s character and move on (as much as I like Zach Gilford).

— Finally, the youth love the School Spirits on Paramount+. It’s coming back for a fourth season.
