Another week, another round of renewals and cancellations, beyond the official confirmation for season three of Good Omens, announced this morning.
I doubt that many people who read this site were the target audience for Freeform, but that network is all but dead, at least as far as original programming goes. The network has killed its only remaining two scripted series, Cruel Summer and Good Trouble. Cruel Summer had a fun and buzzy first season, but the second season was terrible. Good Trouble will finish after the second half of its fifth season. The network has allowed them to film some more scenes to finish that series. That’s basically it for the network, which has Grown-ish finishing up its run and two reality series, Love Trip: Paris and Chrissy & Dave Dine Out. Their status is up in the air.
I doubt anyone will be surprised to learn that AMC has canceled Lucky Hank, a decent series starring Bob Odenkirk that did not catch on. I loved the Richard Russo novel upon which it was based, and the series was good, but the Better Call Saul audience clearly did not follow Bob Odenkirk over to his new show. It’ll be the first time that he is not working on an AMC series since 2009.
I have never watched Station 19, although I know of a great guy who writes on it. The Grey’s Anatomy spin-off will premiere its seventh and final season in March 2024. The final season is also moving from Grey’s Anatomy’s lead-in to its lead-out, airing at 10 p.m.
Another season of television ending with its upcoming season is Hightown on Starz. I’ve heard decent things but never got to it, and I doubt I will before the final season premieres on January 26th.
The reason I’m definitely not going to get to it is because — if there is a Dad show I’m going to catch up on — it’s going to be Leverage: Redemption, which has been renewed for a third season and will move from Freevee to Prime Video. The third season will premiere next year.
In the reality world, Netflix has renewed Love Is Blind for a seventh season, and MTV has renewed Jersey Shore Family Vacation for a seventh season. No offense to the cast of Jersey Shore, but it’s kind of sad they’re still doing this 14 years after the original Jersey Shore premiered. Also sad? That people are still watching it.
Finally, Larry David says that Curb Your Enthusiasm will end after its upcoming 12th season. I feel like Larry David has said that before, so who knows?
