Nathan Fielder has an air of mystique about him. He’s not the most public celebrity. On his shows, he often plays himself. However, it is a heightened version of himself. Or is it? The Rehearsal saw Fielder expose personal details about himself, but we don’t know how true those are. We at least know he sent mayonnaise to everyone’s least favorite Jonas.
Fielder is also a fantastic late-night guest. The hosts of Strike Force Five stated as much during an episode. He will come prepared with a bit for his interviews. It’s always entertaining, and we still don’t know if we’re getting the true Nathan. He took that further with his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel: Live!
Fielder took the stage with his The Curse co-star, Emma Stone. Stone was present for one of Fielder’s more public appearances; It only makes sense that she is there for this one as Nathan finally gives everyone a look at who he is (kind of). Fielder comes out dressed in what can be described as late-90s Hacker Chic. He claims this is who he is, but it’s not all as it seems.
It is quickly revealed that Fielder received a negative review for his performance in The Curse by the New York Times. As a way to push back against the review, Fielder plays up the fact that he was acting because his normal self is so chill. It’s hilarious, and Stone plays along like a great partner.
We may never know who Nathan Fielder is. I don’t think he wants us to. I respect the hell out of that.
