It’s important when something tragic happens to gain perspective on it from someone it affects. When that doesn’t happen, excuses are made, things are overlooked and no one benefits. Is there room for empathy in these situations? Sure. But, at the end of the day, sometimes people need to shut up and listen.
On last night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the show was handed over to writer Karen Chee to offer her perspective on the mass shooting in Georgia this week that resulted in the murder of eight people. She addresses the importance of how this should be covered, the mistakes already made, and how people can help and move forward.
I truly applaud Karen for her address. It can’t be easy to talk about something as horrific as what happened. It takes strength and courage that not everyone is capable of, but people need to hear what she said. They need to listen when those affected by unjust hatred and violence speak out. So, please, watch the clip. Listen to her words and do what you can to help.
