Ron DeSantis is likely the last name you want to read right now (or at least the second to last). He is actively being shoved down our throats by both supporters and detractors. There’s a good reason. DeSantis may be TFG’s biggest challenger for the GOP’s Presidential nomination. That’s scary because, as John Oliver deftly describes, DeSantis is as dangerous as TFG. They may be packaged differently, but both are capable of destruction.
On the newest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took most of the show to discuss DeSantis and his dirty dealings. The current Governor of Florida is on a bit of an “anti-woke crusade.” Everything he does seems to be motivated by bullshit culture wars. Then, if he’s called out on it, he pushes back like a sniveling baby. He is one in a long list of current conservatives who love to dish it out but can’t take it.
That’s one of the reasons I side with Oliver in being excited to see TFG go after DeSantis. Bullies need to be bullied. Sometimes, unfortunately, it takes another bully to do that. It’s hard to look at another TFG presidential campaign in any positive light. I also know that if DeSantis does slip up, it may not cost him anything. As shown in a recent viral FOX News clip, the network’s viewers in Florida still love the giant orange monster.
Florida’s unwavering love of TFG may explain why he has been trying to goad DeSantis into a fight. It’s not about seeing this wannabe fascist as a threat to his presidency. It really just comes down to TFG wanting complete support. He treats the GOP like serfs (and they lap it up like suckers). Even Ron will kiss the ring when his chips are inevitably down. That’s what people with no backbone do. They fold.
One last thing. Don’t jump into the comments dunking on Progressives, Liberals, or decent people who live in Florida. It is not their fault that an ill-fitting booted thug is running their state. A lot of them are trying hard to stop him. We need them. Don’t cast them aside. If you traveled abroad between 2016 and 2020, you know what it’s like to be judged because of the decisions of others, and without our Florida friends, you may face that judgment again.
