How I Met Your Father is closing in on its second midseason finale (there are 20 episodes on this season of the Hulu series), and while we’re no closer to discovering who the father is (seriously, no one cares this time around), 35-year-old Hilary Duff’s character, Sophie, did begin dating another man this week.

He’s a chef played by John Corbett, who is 61 years old. In the context of the series, it works, mostly because the joke is that Sophie is dating a much older man. I don’t love HIMYF as a show — I mostly use it to break up hour-long dramas — but it is fun to see Corbett in the role, mostly because he’s great in everything. What is weird, however, is that it’s not the first time that Corbett and Duff have worked together. In 2004’s Raise Your Voice, Corbett played a mentor to a teenage musician played by Duff.

It might also be worth noting another interesting wrinkle here is that Corbett is only five years younger than Kim Cattrall, who plays the older version of Sophie in How I Met Your Father. Cattrall and Corbett, meanwhile, worked together for years on Sex and the City, and Corbett will even be returning to the second season of And Just Like That. Cattrall, however, will not, because she is done with the franchise after a messy and public break-up.
