There’s something about mediocre white men. They will be the loudest and proudest about their existence without offering anything valuable to society. Yes, I’m sure the same could be said for mediocre people. The snag is that no mediocre human beings get to muck up the airwaves with their opinions more than mediocre white men.
Sometimes, you can find a little group of MWMs whose whole purpose is to react to each other’s jokes like they are the funniest things to be said. They sit around, rattling off “jokes” that your worst uncle wouldn’t touch because they’re often just shitty statements. Take failed New York gubernatorial nominee Lee Zeldin.
Zeldin was recently on the least funny show on Late Night. He sat there tie-less (because he’s so down-to-earth) and with his tail between his legs, used the r-word to describe New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It may be the most cowardly delivery of an insult I’ve heard. Even the crowd boos him for a moment before Mediocre White Man Extraordinaire Greg Gutfeld swoops in to make it clear: being despicable is allowed on his show.
I’ve spoken about Gutfeld here before. He’s the worst—an insecure, unfunny man, who rose to prominence thanks to MAXIM magazine. If you ever had a man dripping with AXE body spray corner you at a party to tell you why women aren’t funny, you likely have Gutfeld to blame. He’s not even a bully. He’s a crony who has power. Gutfeld is as mediocre a human being as could be, but with a chair surrounded by other chairs so he can pretend he’s important.
Gutfeld not only defended Zeldin’s use of the r-word to his audience, he went on to joke(?) that it is acceptable to use it at Fox News. He makes some half-assed remarks about getting it approved by the “associations” because he’s not quick enough on his feet to think of a funny name. It’s painful to watch, and not the first time I’ve seen Gutfeld lose his audience. But, hey, if you sign up to see a small, insignificant, boot-licking, smarmy, charmless troll make jokes with a former pro wrestler, you get what you pay for.
