Donald Glover Will Be Playing Lando Calrissian Again

I feel comfortable with you all now to share something personal about myself. What I’m about to say may not make sense to most of you, but I know a small contingent (which includes Mike) will be on my side. Here goes nothin’. I love the 2018 Ron Howard film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

I know! A lot of people did not like that film. I am not one of them. I thought it crackled with immense, fun Star Wars energy. Although I would have loved to have seen Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s versions, Ron Howard’s sensibilities lent themselves to the tone and style of a galaxy far, far away. It’s particularly impressive since he stepped in while production was already underway.

I also loved the cast! Han Solo was my first favorite Star Wars character. Harrison Ford’s smarmy smuggler stole my heart from the moment I saw him. I was also enamored with the new take from Alden Ehrenreich. He captured Solo’s spirit while avoiding a Disney Park Employee style imitation. The same can be said for Donald Glover.

The first time you hear Glover as smooth-talking Lando Calrissian, he sounds intentionally similar to Billy Dee Williams. From that point on, Glover makes the character his own. His outfits are immaculate. His cool is ice-cold. He owns the role, and it looks like he’s set to do that once again.

According to a recent report from Above The Line, Glover will be returning to the Star Wars universe for a previously announced Lando television show. Donald will be writing the show with his brother Stephen Glover. Few details are known about the project at this point, like whether or not it will include my man, Alden Ehrenreich. Still, my excitement is palpable.
