Who the Hell Were The 'Mexicans' in 'True Detective'?

True Detective isn’t exactly the gripping television it was in the first season, which often makes it difficult to follow, less because of how convoluted it is (though, it is that, too) and more because you miss things on account of your inability to pay attention.

Hence, you may not have recognized the Mexicans that Frank Semyon stumbled upon in the sixth episode of True Detective. You know the ones I’m talking about:

Their name is Gonzales. It’s a collective name, as in, when they introduced themselves in the last episode, they said, “Our name is Gonzalez. We work here. “

They had an arrangement to distribute drugs in Frank’s club under Danny Santos. You remember him, right?

When Frank kicked Danny’s ass, removed his “f*ck you” grill, and took back control of the club, Gonzales returned to continue their “arrangement with Santos.” Frank basically told them to screw off. “I don’t need partners,” he said.

As luck would have it, Frank ran into them again in this episode. They were hiding Irina, the woman who pawned goods that connected the death of Ben Caspere to Ledo Amarilla, the fella who got shot to death in the shootout a couple of episodes back.

Gonzales, as you no doubt saw, slashed Irina’s throat before we could find out which cop paid her to sell those goods, though they managed to meet the terms of Frank’s new arrangement with them on a technicality. But I think we all know who that cop is anyway, don’t we: Kevin Burris.

As for why Frank decided to pay a visit to Stan’s widow and his son? That’s still unclear.
