Disbelief. Confusion. Shock. Anger. And then a different kind of anger, the kind that comes with having been duped by the writers on The Walking Dead.
That sums up the reaction viewers had to the near-death of Glenn Rhee earlier this season, when it appeared that he’d been eaten by zombies. That same set of emotions may have overcome many The Walking Dead viewers tonight when the episode, “East,” ended with what appeared to be Daryl being shot by Dwight.
However, this time, the writers let viewers off the hook quickly. In the three and a half seconds between the time that Daryl’s blood splattered all over the camera and Dwight said, “You’ll be alright,” viewers may have believed Daryl had been killed. However, it quickly became apparent that showrunner Scott Gimple was once again toying with us. Daryl’s not dead. That bullet clearly hit below the head, and Dwight wouldn’t have said, “You’ll be alright,” if he hadn’t non-fatally shot Daryl.
He’s going to live. For one more week, anyway (and probably much longer). However, Twitter expressed an awful lot of emotion between the time that Dwight pulled the trigger and uttered the final words of the episode, and thereafter. Here’s how Twitter reacted to another The Walking Dead death scare — the good, bad, and indifferent.
