Okay, okay, so far these are only rumors, but I’m already completely invested, so…
Around my house, there might be a few candidates for a favorite Star Wars character, but for me the race is between only two — and they’re both in the news today. First up, and what will no doubt reinforce my nine-year-old son’s fervent believe that “He is still alive, because…” is word that Ewan McGregor is in talks with Disney to reincarnate Obi-Wan Kenobi. Though he’s reportedly discussing an “unknown” project, sources are saying said deal is for a trilogy of Obi-Wan films that would focus on his life between the original and prequel trilogies.
“…according to this source, Disney has been courting Ewan McGregor “not to be a force ghost, but for a post-Episode III Kenobi.” They go on to add they’ve heard from multiple people that Disney wants an Obi-Wan Kenobi TRILOGY of films, outside of the Anthology series.…the film (or films) would focus on Obi-Wan’s adventures between the two trilogies as he watches over a maturing Luke Skywalker. The film(s) would be standalone adventure(s), with the possibility of characters like Owen Lars and Darth Maul appearing.” (Schmoes kKnow)
This seems like a no-brainer. Everybody loves Ewan; he was perhaps the only actor who could have followed in Alec Guinness’ footsteps, and who doesn’t want more Kenobi? OBI-WAN LIVES, MY BOY — YOU WERE RIGHT!
SK also claims they’ve got the scoop on the two directors interested in doing the second Star Wars anthology film (the Gareth Edwards directed Rogue One being the first), and additional details on its characters:
“…over and over again, my source is hearing the same thing: Han Solo and Boba Fett will be the focus of the second Star Wars Anthology film set for release in 2018.The source reports that the conflict between Fett and Solo that was only hinted at in the original trilogy (and seen countless times in the Expanded Universe) will finally be onscreen in a film taking place between Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope. Additionally, it’s been mentioned that characters such as Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Bossk will make appearances throughout the film.”
Clearly Disney understands what my family wants; I mean, Obi-Wan, Han, Chewie, Boba…those are all the names (well, and Qui-Gon) bandied about the house during any Star Wars discussion. As for the two directors circling the film, they’re rumored to be Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn.
I’m going to dance around with excitement while I wait for the kidlets to get home. In the meantime, let’s all get in the Star Wars mood with another look at that glorious trailer.
