Ahhh, the Holiday season. The parties are well underway, the eggnog is back on the shelves, and we’ve all already heard “All I Want For Christmas is You” enough times to make us want to gouge our ears out. You’d think that there’s no other modern Christmas classic than that one. Well friends, I’m here to save the day—but only if your day is potentially ruined by the lack of Holiday songs that aren’t sung by Mariah Carey in your life.
I’ve put together some of mine, and the rest of the Overlords favorite underrated holiday classics to brighten your day, and give your ears a rest from Mariah. Although for the record, I (used to) like that song, it just seems in the last five years in particular, it’s become the only song you ever hear on the radio. Let’s give the Waitresses their due, is all I’m saying.
Stevie Wonder - “What Christmas Means To Me”
The Pogues (Featuring Kirsty MacColl) - “Fairytale of New York”
Bad Religion - “O Come All Ye Faithful”
Robert Downey, Jr. - “The River”
The Raveonettes - “The Christmas Song”
Sufjan Stevens - “Star of Wonder”
New Kids On the Block - Have a Funky Funky Christmas
Look, no one said these had to be good. Also, please know I have every single word of this memorized, and can bust it out with no notice, at any time. You’ve been warned.
Gabriella Cilmi - “Warm This Winter”
The Killers - “The Cowboy’s Christmas Ball”
Barenaked Ladies- “Hanukkah, O Hanukkah”
Bing Crosby - “Happy Holidays (Beef Wellington Remix)”
Christmas Remixed Holiday Classics Re-Grooved - “Jingle Bells (Dan The Automator Remix)”
Loose Tapestries - “Can’t Wait for Christmas”
Paul “Fat Daddy” Johnson - “Fat Daddy”
Run The Jewels - “A Christmas F*cking Miracle”
Ariana Grande - “Wit It This Christmas”
Jackson 5 - “Up on The Housetop”
Sia - Candy Cane Lane
Henry Farag/Stormy Weather - “Christmas Time is Coming”
Run DMC - Christmas Is
The Leevees “How Do You Spell Hanukah / Hannukkah / Chanukah”
The Waitresses - “Christmas Wrapping”
Screeching Weasel - “Christmas Eve”
Weezer - “The Christmas Song”
We could do a whole post about completely different songs named “The Christmas Song” and yet we probably won’t, so enjoy this completely different song than the Raveonettes song above—both of which are completely different from “The Christmas Song” you’re probably thinking of.
The Jingle Cats - “White Christmas”
This was the first cd I ever bought—and still remains a classic.
Share yours in the comments below, but I swear to all that is holy if any of you post anything by Pentatonix, the ban hammer will be swift and merciless.
