Drinking Buddies, which was one of our very favorite movies from the SXSW Film Festival this year, was released on VOD, iTunes, etc. today meaning that if you’re at home reading this you could watch it right now. Lucky you. I wish I were seeing it for the first time. The delightfully low-key movie not only features two actors from this year’s Pajiba 10, but it’s one of the very best works of improvisation I’ve ever seen. That’s right. No script folks. That dialogue is 100% generated by the actors. At SXSW this year, Jake Johnson described the process as “controlled chaos.” The result is a refreshingly naturalistic representation of young(ish) adulthood and the fluid line between close friendship and something more. All the lead players are charming as hell and the film is just the perfect blend of brainy, emotional honesty and sloppy drunken fun. In short, it was made just for you, Pajibans. Knock it back tonight. I insist.
