How a Bitter Adam Sandler Ransomed NBC After Being Fired From 'SNL'

Adam Sandler is so synonymous with SNL that we often forget that both he and Chris Farley were inexplicably fired from the show in 1995. Everyone made a huge deal about the fact that Eddie Murphy returned to SNL for the first time in 30 years on the 40th Anniversary Show, but fewer people have noted that Adam Sandler — who has been one of the biggest names in comedy over the last two decades — has never hosted SNL (and according to Sandler himself, he has no real interest in ever doing so).

Anyway, Sandler was on Conan last night, and talked about appearing on Conan’s show soon after he was fired from SNL, wondering why they’d even asked him. “I thought they didn’t like me anymore,” he said. He liked Conan, obviously, but he was reluctant to return to NBC because he was still stung by his firing, so he made one demand — which seemed like a huge deal at the time to him — before he would appear on Conan: He insisted they buy him a FAX machine.

And you know what? It worked.
