It’s one of those huge, terrifying questions that we all wonder in dread. Could you kill Baby Hitler? What would you do in a zombie apocalypse? What if Donald Trump had a pocket Trump who was even Trumper than Trump?
For at least one of those, there is an answer.
Corey Lewandowski is Trump’s campaign manager. He pours Red Bull down his throat, his friends call him a cowboy, he used to be a cop, and he’s the one who grabbed Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields at a recent rally.
Of course, he denies this.
@MichelleFields you are totally delusional. I never touched you. As a matter of fact, I have never even met you.
— Corey Lewandowski (@CLewandowski_) March 11, 2016
Lewandowski’s previous position was East Coast director of Americans for Prosperity, which sounds exactly like the kind of organization backed by the Koch brothers, and oh how about that, that’s exactly what it is. He was a winner there, too.
Lewandowski boasted about threatening to “blow up” the car of the organization’s chief financial officer over a late expense reimbursement check during the 2012 election cycle, according to multiple sources who are familiar with his claim.
And that’s hardly all.
On the sidelines of a meeting of the group’s board in Manhattan, Lewandowski loudly berated the employee for challenging his authority, getting in her personal space and calling her a “c—-” in front of a group of AFP employees, including some senior officials, according to three sources who either witnessed the exchange or dealt with its aftermath.
But that’s not what got him either fired, encouraged to quit or quit for totally unrelated reasons, depending upon who you ask. It would be that time he was made responsible for voter registration and sent several hundred people in North Carolina the wrong voter registration information (in addition to many other issues, it was sent to a cat).
An incompetent loose cannon? Quite honestly, those of us who’ve held corporate jobs have seen people like that fail upwards time and time again. But this specific incompetent loose cannon was snatched up by the Trump campaign to be his own incompetent loose cannon familiar to the tune of $20,000 a month.
According to Politico, in this Trumpy role (not this Trumpy role) he has, aside from his physical altercation with Fields, gotten physical with other reporters, made vulgar comments to female journalists, threatened Megyn Kelly, and broken debate rules. His one rule? Let Trump be Trump.
So who do we have to thank for Trump? A campaign manager who not only allowed, but actively encouraged him to Trump all over the country, bringing a cloud of racists out of hiding like a flea spray that just makes the fleas stronger and more visible.
