Look: I am joining my colleagues here at Pajiba in boycotting the NFL this season — at least until they change this ridiculous new National Anthem policy — although I will admit that I’m a little more conflicted about it. On the one hand, it’s necessary in order to send a message to 31 billionaire team owners, but on the other hand, we’re also punishing the players themselves — 70 percent of whom are black — who did not agree to the policy. Moreover, when NFL ratings go down — as they did last season — Trump sees that as a victory for him. And that infuriates me, but ultimately, I agree that the only way to make the owners listen and change is to boycott and though I am skeptical that it will force men like Jerry Jones to reconsider, I suspect it’s the only way (if only because starting another league would be next to impossible).
At any rate, it’s shit like this that makes me want to watch the NFL, if only to stick by the players.
New White House statement: "The vast majority of the Eagles team decided to abandon their fans."

The Trump administration is presenting itself as the true champion of Eagles fans, like more than the actual champion Eagles. pic.twitter.com/jgeYU4hUpK
Are you kidding me? Trump is trying to turn Eagles fans against the Eagles. How the hell does he think that’s going to work?
Like, fuck you, dude! I don’t even like the Eagles, but now I’m an Eagles fan out of solidarity, but not an Eagles fan who will actually watch them play this season because we’re boycotting the NFL, which is exactly what Trump wants, and I hate Trump, but if we don’t boycott the NFL and ratings hold or improve, then the owners will never feel compelled to change anything. THERE ARE NO WINNERS.
It’s a goddamn bind, y’all. A goddamn Catch-22.
