Jon Stewart returned to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, as it appears now that Stewart will be to Colbert what Lewis Black was to Jon Stewart: A guy who shows up every couple of weeks to rail on a particular topic. I’m OK with that. I’m sure Stewart’s periodic visits have helped Colbert overtake the falling Fallon. Last night, that topic was Trump’s recent “break-up” with the media, a reference to the White House’s decision not to invite several major news outlets to a press briefing last week.
In the segment, Jon Stewart suggested that the media use this break-up as an opportunity for self-reflection, that maybe they should take up a hobby, like journalism!
It’s a ten-minute segment, but if you’re short on time, the first three minutes are Stewart/Colbert schtick, and the next three minutes are news clips of Donald Trump saying “believe me,” etc., so jump to the 7:00 mark to get to the point of Stewart’s visit.
Well said, but not entirely fair. I mean, I live in a news media bubble right now, surrounded by the Times, Post, Politico, Katy Tur, Rachel Maddow, and Jake Tapper, and they’re largely doing a great job of “journalism,” but there’s always room for improvement in the case of others, I suppose. He’s right about Breitbart, though: They do do anal.
