As ICE begins its deportation raids this weekend, as Tucker Carlson ramps up his anti-immigration rhetoric, and as pictures of the Vice President visiting what is clearly a concentration camp are released by the media …
‘No shower, no shower’ — Watch this footage of Mike Pence and Senate Republicans touring the McAllen Border Station, where hundreds of men were seen crowded in cages, sleeping on the ground, and signaling that they had been detained for at least 40 days pic.twitter.com/XWaOnURQr7

… the President of the United States took a moment this morning to tell four Congresswomen to “go back” to their countries.
These are the words of a racist. And it’s not even close. pic.twitter.com/BnjOoBk6eN

Three of the four women of color that Trump attacked were born in the United States. The other came to America when she was 10.
Mr. President, the country I “come from,” & the country we all swear to, is the United States.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 14, 2019
But given how you’ve destroyed our border with inhumane camps, all at a benefit to you & the corps who profit off them, you are absolutely right about the corruption laid at your feet. https://t.co/HLKQCotR8T
You are angry because you don’t believe in an America where I represent New York 14, where the good people of Minnesota elected @IlhanMN, where @RashidaTlaib fights for Michigan families, where @AyannaPressley champions little girls in Boston.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 14, 2019
/2
But you know what’s the rub of it all, Mr. President?
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 14, 2019
On top of not accepting an America that elected us, you cannot accept that we don’t fear you, either.
You can’t accept that we will call your bluff & offer a positive vision for this country. And that’s what makes you seethe.
Nancy Pelosi responded with one very bad tweet, suggesting that she was still willing to work across the aisle with a man who reaffirmed his racism in the worst way imaginable …
I reject @realDonaldTrump’s xenophobic comments meant to divide our nation. Rather than attack Members of Congress, he should work with us for humane immigration policy that reflects American values. Stop the raids - #FamiliesBelongTogether!
— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) July 14, 2019
And a slightly better tweet, which at least acknowledged the racism of his tweets.
However, Pelosi did not address the fact that she put Trump on this path.
Make no mistake: Nancy Pelosi’s dogwhistling snipes at @AOC, Ilhan Omar, @RashidaTlaib and @RepPressley helped pave the way for this vicious, racist attack from the president. https://t.co/zdvpo23gtr

I'm not even going to come for Trump. I'm laying this all at @SpeakerPelosi feet. She started the attacks. Like I said, so much goodwill squandered.

The response from Twitter was general disgust, and I’ll include a few here if only so that you don’t feel alone in your disgust.
Trump tells a Muslim congresswoman to "go back to where you came from," then yaps about how wonderful his concentration camps are and is now waddling his racist ass all over one of his shitty golf courses. what a fine idea it was to hand the presidency to a hate crime on two legs
— Jeff Tiedrich (@itsJeffTiedrich) July 14, 2019
To tell these American citizens (most of whom were born here) to “go back” to the “crime infested places from which they came” is racist and disgusting. https://t.co/sIAqg8bTIb

how, indeed pic.twitter.com/SlGMUABZvL
— Tom Kludt (@TomKludt) July 14, 2019
This thread may be the single worst, most bigoted, least American thing Trump has posted on Twitter, which is a pretty high bar. https://t.co/71ruUkmvlD

Want a response to a lawless & complete failure of a President?
— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) July 14, 2019
He is the crisis.
His dangerous ideology is the crisis.
He needs to be impeached.
When I call the president a racist, this is what I'm talking about
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) July 14, 2019
We must stand together for justice and dignity towards all. https://t.co/lweeJk7NoF
The President of the United States just told brown-skinned members of Congress who were born in this country to go back home to where they came from. This should be the only news story of the day and in a better country, it would be.
— Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) July 14, 2019
I wish I could say this wasn’t true, but it’s absolutely true:
crazy thing is that by Monday we’ll have moved on to some other fire alarm and we will totally forget that a sitting president publicly told people of color (and u.s. citizens) that they should go back to their countries
