Morning Briefing: Oh Yeah, Don Jr. Forgot to Mention THERE WAS A RUSSIAN SPY in That June 9th Meeting
On Sunday, the White House Chief of Staff said that the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer with Kremlin ties was a “nothing burger.” We have since learned that the “nothing burger” held the promise of Hillary Clinton dirt from the Russian government, and that there are emails proving it.
And still, Donald Jr. insists the meeting — held a floor below where Donald Trump was at the time — was pointless, despite the fact that 40 minutes after the meeting, Donald Trump said — for the first time — that there were 33,000 deleted Hillary Clinton emails, and despite the fact that soon after that meeting, he promised something big on Hillary Clinton.

Oh yeah: We also learned yesterday that — despite repeatedly saying that he only found out about the meeting with Don Jr., a few days ago — that Donald Trump actually knew about the meeting last year. How did we find that out? Trump said so in an off-the-record meeting with journos that he allowed to go on the record before trying to take that piece of information out of the record.

More: Despite saying he didn’t know about the meeting until very recently, Trump’s attorneys knew about it and the email chain as early as last month. It was the discovery of that email chain in June that prompted Jared Kushner to amend his security clearance (which he has now done 14 times!). You don’t think Trump’s attorneys ever bothered to tell their client about something this huge?
One other thing, and maybe this is no big deal, I’m sure it’s nothing, but we just learned this morning that there was a 5th person in that meeting with the Russian lawyer, Don Jr., Kushner, and Manafort, and oh yeah, HE IS A FUCKING RUSSIAN SPY.
I mean, “officially,” he’s an American/Russian dual citizen, former Russian military and a former Soviet counter-intelligence officer, and now a lobbyist for Russian interests, but that’s really just code for HE’S A FUCKING RUSSIAN SPY.
The presence at the meeting of a Russian-American with suspected intelligence ties is likely to be of interest to special counsel Robert Mueller and the House and Senate panels investigating the Russian election interference campaign.
Ya think? YA THINK?
Alan Futerfas, the attorney of Don Jr., now concedes that there was a 5th person, but the attorney says he was just a pal of “of Emin [Agalarov]’s and maybe as a friend of Natalia [Veselnitskaya]’s” and that Don Jr. didn’t know anything about his background and/or his ties to Russian intelligence and that it’s no big deal. A nothing burger, maybe?
Uh huh. If it was no big deal, why didn’t Don Jr. admit before that there was a 5th guy in the room? And what did that guy have to do with “Russian adoptions”? And does anyone find it hard to believe that a Kremlin-backed Russian lawyer and a former Soviet spy met with Don Jr. with the promise of delivering Clinton dirt and only ended up talking about Russian adoptions? Really?
Give. Us. A. Fucking. Break.
