Donald Trump met with Pope Francis at the Vatican today. There’s not a lot of hard news to come out of the meeting (in fact, the entire trip has been short on hard news; Trump would be hated a lot less if he spent his entire Presidency abroad), but there were a few awkward exchanges. For instance, Pope Francis gave him the cold shoulder in their first interaction.
In presence of pool reporters @POTUS said to @Pontifex it's "a very great honor." The pope did not say anything. He did not smile. pic.twitter.com/Li0uhlE7w9

Soon after, Trump and the Pope disappeared and had a half hour conversation. We don’t know what was said, but apparently, it left an impression on Trump, who left the meeting with the Pope saying, “I won’t forget. I won’t forget what you said.” I can only assume that the Pope told Trump that there is a special place in hell awaiting him.
The Pope also met Melania, and used the handshake to throw some shade at Trump about his eating habits.

Clearly, the Pope is not a huge fan.
The Pope's expression is priceless. I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM STANDING NEXT TO THIS MAN pic.twitter.com/aAO2OczWLm

Of course, these two do not have a particularly good history.

But by far, the best thing to come out of the get together was this super awkward photo, which Twitter has had a great time with this morning.
