The Daily Beast is reporting today that the hacker behind the stolen emails from leaders of the DNC is, in fact, an agent of the Russian government tasked with disrupting the American election on behalf of the former Soviet Union.
The researchers, at Arlington, Va.-based ThreatConnect, traced the self-described Romanian hacker Guccifer 2.0 back to an Internet server in Russia and to a digital address that has been linked in the past to Russian online scams. Far from being a singly, sophisticated hacker, Guccifer 2.0 is more likely a collection of people from the propaganda arm of the Russian government meant to deflect attention away from Moscow as the force behind the DNC hacks and leaks of emails, the researchers found.
There is no known direct link however, between the Russian hacker and Donald Trump, as conservative commentator George Will has suggested. Will believes that Trump has been working with Russian oligarchs, and that Trump is refusing to release his tax forms because it would prove a connection between himself and Russia.
In any other election year, that might sound like an insane conspiracy theory. In this election year, it only sounds like a theory.
For his part, Trump is claiming that attempts to tie him to the Russian hacker is obfuscation on the part of the Democrats.
However, Trump did call upon Russia TO COMMIT TREASONOUS CYBERESPIONAGE on his political rival, Hillary Clinton.
"Russia, if you're listening, I hope you find the 33,000 emails that are missing. I think you'll be rewarded mightily by our press!" WTF WTF

Yes, there’s video, too.

What we are witnessing here is stunning. America should be embarrassed. pic.twitter.com/dN6eDudJaU

trying to imagine gop reaction if kerry, obama, or clinton called on russia to help them win an election.

See what I mean about this insane election? Trump says he didn’t pay anyone to hack into the DNC’s emails, but he’s also basically saying, if he could, he totally would.
Also, not for nothing, but he also shushed a female reporter.
Donald Trump just shouted "be quiet" to a female reporter at a press conference. And that's apparently fine?

The reporter was NBC's @KatyTurNBC https://t.co/G5HozDALPD

Dick.
He also told the same reporter that he believes in torture, the Geneva conventions be damned.
Donald Trump to @KatyTurNBC: "I am a person that believes in enhanced interrogation, yes. And by the way, it works.”
