Imagine it. Donald Trump wakes up and turns on Fox and Friends to get his fix of sycophantic validation. And then on comes the political ad from an openly gay Democrat running on a platform that essentially boils down to “Fuck you, Trump.”

Maryland state senator Richard Madaleno is too much of a gentleman to say that directly. However, the ad below gets the message across loud and clear.

Surrounded by women, people of color, children, and Planned Parenthood supporters, he lists the ways he has infuriated Trump. Then he’s shown with his husband and their two children, and Madaleno says, “What’s the number one way that I piss off Donald Trump and the Republicans?” As an answer, Madaleno kisses his husband, making history with the first same-sex kiss in an American political campaign ad. And it aired for the first time ever during a commercial break for Fox and Friends. So clearly, Madaleno and his team had one very special audience in mind.

The Hill reports Madaleno is in a crowded field, with several Democrats running in the primary, in hopes of facing off against incumbent Republican Governor Larry Hogan. Currently, Madaleno’s polling in fourth place. But the national attention this spot is getting could help his numbers. And if not, he’ll always hold the pride of pissing off Trump and making history during the second Pride Month that Trump’s White House willfully ignored.
