Wait, Hold Up, Did Danny McBride Say He Wrote a Book?

Putting my cards on the table here: This news broke at the end of January, but I’m not sure if you’re aware, stuff keeps happening. Lots and lots of stuff. Way too much if I’m being honest. On top of this administration constantly operating in goblin mode, Savannah Guthrie’s mom was abducted, a halftime show made every white person in America die, and as I’m typing this bright and early Wednesday morning, Texas airspace has been shut down for “national security reasons.” Can’t wait to see what that is about, but I’m sure it’ll be something real dumb.

Anyway, I’m burying the lede again. Danny McBride wrote a book. Well, more accurately a collection of short stories, but I’m not about to look this gift horse in the mouth because I’m here for everything it’s selling.

Via THR:

“Between seasons of writing the Righteous Gemstones, I wrote short fiction to shift gears and tell more stories, even if just for myself” says McBride. “This collection takes place in the spaces men build for themselves when the world moves on without asking their permission. These stories aren’t here to fix men. They’re here to watch them spiral out of control, eat s***, get back up, and occasionally do something accidentally decent.”

As someone who has tracked McBride’s career all the way from Hot Rod to the sheer brilliance of The Righteous Gemstones, I’m a fish in a barrel. The only thing I don’t get is why the release date is June 23, two days after Father’s Day. Does Random House hate money? I don’t know how book publishing works, but I would probably fix that. If it’s the dust jacket holding things up, who even uses those things? How cool could it be?

Oh, I see. Touché.
