At the end of the day, joining a massive franchise can be a huge step forward for someone’s acting career. That doesn’t mean doing so is an easy decision to make. You have to consider whether or not you want to make those kinds of movies, but also be part of that whole sphere. The press is more intense, the contracts are long, and the fans are… well, sometimes they don’t act like fans. That’s a lot to consider, on top of wondering whether you’re even able to fit in on set. Can you jump into a machine if it’s already been humming along? Apparently, you can if Tom Holland is leading the way.
Holland is one of those stars who I hope doesn’t get milkshake ducked down the line, because most stories about him are pretty wonderful. Seeing him interact with fans is a delight. He’s incredibly humble and has been open and honest about his struggles. And despite being thrust into stardom at a pretty young age, the dude seems pretty well adjusted. It also helps to hear other folks sing his praises on the regular. Plenty have done so, and you can now add Sadie Sink to that list.
Out of all the Stranger Things kids, I think Sink has the potential for the most interesting career. She’s already made some challenging choices, going from Netflix to Broadway, and I’d argue she’s the best actor in that group (which is mostly pretty good). There’s a big career ahead of her, and she’s taken a giant leap by joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There are currently more rumors about who she’ll be playing than anything else, but we do know that she’ll have some screen time with Holland, and it sounds like she enjoyed it.
“It was interesting stepping into that space and being a little bit of an outsider in that way, but he could not have been more welcoming, and just the whole crew in general,” Sink explained to Nylon. “He was just so relaxed and open, and I felt very at ease.” Sounds like Holland is not only a great star, but a wonderful leader. He’s the most important person on set, and his demeanor will set the tone. If he’s behaving as Sink notes, that’s going to make everybody more comfortable.
She went on to explain how working in the MCU feels different and more massive than being on Stranger Things, which is wild, because even the older woman who watches one of my kids’ friends was complaining to me about the finale at the beginning of the year. That show is humongous! But the MCU is the MCU for a reason. It’s a juggernaut and has helped turn people like Holland into stars. Given what Sink has already established for herself, it could launch her into the stratosphere.
