It’s a weird time to be a part of the MCU! With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon and set to shake things up, it’s hard to imagine how anything happen in the interim can stand on its own. Teams like the Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four hit the silver screen last year, and even they ended up being overshadowed by their promises of being connected to something bigger (I could have done without both of those after-credits scenes). And I think it’s safe to say that the new Spider-Man film due out this year may end up with a similar issue.

When we last left Peter Parker in the MCU, he had been erased from the minds of everyone in the world. People know who Spider-Man is, but they don’t know who Peter is. That didn’t stop him from managing to score an apartment outside of Rockefeller Center, but I bet they’ll address that in a fun way, as I’m sure I’m not the only one who noticed it. While it’s possible, I don’t expect that to change for Pete by the end of the new film. He should be left in a world of loneliness, so a Doctor Doom who resembles his old mentor can swoop in.

It could just be wishful thinking, but that connection needs to be explored in the next few movies. Having read Infinity War and Endgame recently, I can safely say that RDJ and Tom Holland have some of the best scenes in the MCU in those films. Their chemistry is palpable. They must tease their reunion by the end of the new film! But, since that will saddle it with the same problem as the others I mentioned, they have to do something different to stoke interest, like a slow release of a new trailer.

Tom Holland revealed today that a new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day drops tomorrow, and to celebrate, some of the “biggest fans” are going to be sharing clips from the trailer throughout the day. As of this writing, only two have been released. One shows Spidey swinging with someone under his arm, and the other shows a sweaty Peter collapsing in his apartment. I’m sure someone will try to stitch them together by the end of the day, but it’s yet to be seen if the whole trailer will be released via these clips.

First trailer for ‘SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY’ will officially release tomorrow.

Tom Holland says fans from different countries worldwide will reveal new clips from the trailer throughout the day.

Maybe Spidey won’t get webbed up in the cosmic machinations of Doctor Doom. Or, at least, maybe they’ll save that for the actual film and let this stand on its own. But, I doubt it. I really liked Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. My biggest problem with FF was that I knew it would eventually shed its beautiful aesthetic to be folded into the MCU. I’ll be happy to see those characters in the bigger picture, but the need to push those connections in their solo outings is getting tiring. Hopefully, Spidey gets more of a chance to swing on his own.
