The President Thinks Calling Someone ‘Pee-Wee Herman’ Is an Insult

Pee-wee Herman, and therefore, Paul Reubens, had an immense impact on my life. I won’t pretend he is for everybody, just those with heart, soul, and a sense of humor. Liking him so much wasn’t as easy for me in the 90s, as people were spreading rumors about why he was arrested, and my friends’ parents shielded their kids from the horrors of a magic playhouse. But my love never changed, and, if anything, grew stronger over the years. So it shouldn’t be surprising that I let out a big ol’ laugh when I saw our current, feeble, weak commander in chief compare Senator Jon Ossoff to the beloved character.

Why did the most fragile man in the country lash out at someone who speaks clearly and passionately and fights for this country? Well, Ossoff is up for reelection this year and was speaking to supporters, lamenting the war in Iran and the President’s role in it. He said that, instead of doing his duties, the president would rather “travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace,” referring to the President’s assistant, Natalie Harp. Well, that line has set the political world on fire. Republicans are doing a crazy amount of damage control, attacking Ossoff for what they claim is a sexist remark, something else that elicited laughter from me.

The Republican Party calling someone sexist is one of the biggest cases of a pot calling the kettle black that I have seen in my life. These are the same people who want to strip voting rights away from women so they can be good little home/baby makers. They don’t care about women, but they also don’t want more attention drawn to Harp’s relationship with the President. Coincidentally enough, that is exactly what happened, with even TMZ jumping in to discuss the two.

While Republicans are trying to put out a fire with gasoline, the President is taking shots at Ossoff, and by shots, I mean he’s comparing him to a “Pee-wee Herman look-alike.” He does so in a low-energy interview in the Oval Office, a place where he regularly demeans female reporters. There isn’t even any zing behind the intended insult. It feels more like the sputtering of an engine that has run out of fuel. It’s the weakest of weak and will only draw more attention to the President’s alleged affair. Though, to be fair, there are lots of reasons an 80-year-old man would need a companion 24/7. Naps need to be taken. Blankies need to be given. Diapers need to be changed. It’s hard work!

Meanwhile, the man who kickstarted all of this can sit back and watch his political prospects continue to grow. He’ll fill his rallies with supporters, while the aging man in charge fills his pants. It’s a pretty good trade-off if ya ask me!
