When Game of Thrones was at its peak, many of its stars began appearing in other shows and movies. You couldn’t turn on the TV or hop into a theater without laying your eyes on somebody from the cast, even if it was just in bit supporting roles. The popularity and growth of opportunities extended beyond those at the top of the call sheet. But the bigger names weren’t just blessed with new bookings; they were also rumored for projects nonstop. So, it would only make sense that members of the Stranger Things cast face similar rumors.
One of the biggest to hit the web so far (pun intended) regarded Sadie Sink, who played Max on the long-running (in years, not seasons) show. That said, I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know that this was a “rumor turned to truth” situation until now. The first time I heard anything about it was when it was announced she was cast. Still, Sink heard the rumors, and the timing could not have been better.
“I found out through online theories. Like, before I got cast in Spider-Man, like, there was speculation online that said, ‘Sadie Sink is going to be in the new Spider-Man,’” she told Jimmy Fallon on what’s left of The Tonight Show. “I was like, ‘Hmm? I am?’ And sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it. So yeah, those theories, there’s sometimes some truth to it.” The whole situation feels similar to Colman Domingo meeting with Marvel about taking Kang… after there were rumors that he’d be taking over Kang.
It turns out that Sink found out she would be in Spider-Man as the final season of Stranger Things was wrapping up, and how psyched she is, because she’s such a fan of the Web Head, especially Tom Holland’s version. But now, she’s stuck keeping even more secrets. “I had an amazing time working on that film. I can’t wait to talk about it more. There’s so much I want to share,” Sink explained. “That’s why I feel like keeping Stranger Things secrets are kind of easy because I have so many Spider-Man secrets I’m sitting on that feel even more secretive.”
Chief among the secrets is who Sink is actually playing in the film. “There’s so much speculation, too,” she noted. “I feel like there’s a new character every week.” So far, potential characters have included Gwen Stacy, a “real” Mary Jane Watson, and X-Men mainstay Jean Grey. However, I’m sure there are even more names out there than that, and hell, one of them has got to be correct, right?
