Old School. Biblically Independent.

I genuinely can’t remember the first time I read the Odyssey, but I know that it was at school (duh). I also know that my imagination wasn’t fully hooked into what was going on. There was no version of Odysseus in my head canon or anything like that. It was just an old book that I didn’t appreciate until I saw it represented by America’s favorite yellow family.
Yes, there was a Simpsons Odyssey episode (well, a segment in an episode), and that is firmly stuck in my head as what the story is like. Sirens? More like Patti and Selma. A menacing cyclops? Who better than Jeff Albertson (better known by people who didn’t write that name on their wall as soon as it was mentioned, so they would never forget, as Comic Book Guy). And it’s okay if the crew gets turned into pigs because Homer can just eat them!
But the thing that stood out to me the most was Disco Stu (here known as Discus Stu, obviously) as one of the suitors attempting to woo a lonely Marge. However, he quickly reveals that he’s trying to romance Bart instead. It’s a quick little joke, but it was the first thing that popped into my head in the new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, thanks to Robert Pattinson.
I don’t know if it had been mentioned before, as many details seemed to be under wraps, but Pattinson comes out in full swing in this trailer as one of the men trying to replace Matt Damon’s Odysseus and wed Anne Hathaway. He’s lurking, he’s brooding, and he honestly doesn’t seem that into what his character is trying to do. It’s strange, but not in a bad way.
The rest of the trailer is loaded with classic moments from the book that look like they’ll be getting proper representation in the film. There are big battles, mystical soldiers, and that giant-ass Cyclops that looks like it’s going to steal the whole movie. I’m pretty darn excited for this!
