Peter Dinklage Joined 'Alien: Earth' for His Son (It Backfired)

Alien: Earth absolutely slapped from start to finish, so it’s no surprise that Peter Dinklage’s son was a fan of the show. Mine loved it, too, but I don’t have several Primetime Emmy awards under my belt, so I couldn’t pull off a baller move like getting cast in Season 2. Don’t get me wrong, I tried, but the cease-and-desist from Noah Hawley’s attorney was crystal clear about not hiding in his backseat. I thought it showed hustle.

Anyway, Dinklage scored a role on the FX series to impress his son. However, that move quickly backfired, which he revealed in a delightful interview/reunion with his Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harington. I should also probably mention that Dinklage’s son is only eight and watched all of Thrones recently, so be prepared for that. No judgment on my end. I just know the internet goes feral on the topic of parenting.

Via Variety:

Dinklage: My 8-year-old son was really into it. He loves all the dark arts. He writes scary stories. He’s a future Stephen King.

It did bring up a lot of memories. To see it through their eyes was wild. I’m going to do this new “Alien” show this fall, and it’s my son’s favorite show. That’s one of the reasons I said yes. Like, “I’m going to be such a hero in his eyes.” I told him and he was like, “What? Don’t f*** up my favorite show, Dad.” Because it’s going to take him out of it. I didn’t think about that. I’m going to be a bit of reality in his escape.

Harington: That’ll last only a moment, though. Then he’ll realize he gets to go on set, and he’ll love it.

Again, the whole interview is great, especially for Thrones fans. The next bit about how the two of them used to hate being pampered on set until they had kids was shockingly relatable. Someone is tying their shoes for a change? What is this magic? If someone chauffeured me around everywhere so I can blissfully scroll on my phone (and get free Dunkin), I’d probably start weeping.

Seriously, though, you gotta love how parenting is the great equalizer. You think you’re pulling a boss move by landing a role on your kid’s favorite show, but nope, now he has to look at your face even more than usual. If my dad popped up in the middle one of my favorite shows, I’d be pissed, too. Let’s say my old man showed up in Slow Horses, all I’d be able to think about is how much he hates British accents. Can’t stand them!
