Paramount+ with Showtime Rebrands as Dylan Mulroney-McDermott+

I know it was very confusing earlier today when we announced that Dermot Mulroney was getting a divorce and rebranding as Dermot Mulroney+, not to be confused with Dylan McDermott with Maggie Q. But I’m afraid Paramount+ with Showtime is only adding to the confusion by rebranding as Dylan Mulroney-McDermott+.

That’s a joke, folks. And I’m obligated to tell you that, lest I get an annoyed email from a PR rep for Paramount+ with Showtime (but not The Movie Channel, which still exists and is available only as part of a Showtime subscription).

The truth, however, is even more confusing: Paramount+ with Showtime used to simply be called Paramount+, while Showtime was called Showtime. But then Paramount killed the standalone Showtime streamer and merged the two into Paramount+ with Showtime. However, Paramount+ with Showtime is now reverting and will be rebranded as … Paramount Plus Premium.

But that’s only for the ad-free version. The plan with ads is called Paramount Essentials, and it contains commercial-interrupted content from Paramount, Showtime, and CBS.

Got it? Because wait: If you’re still a cable subscriber, Showtime is still called Paramount+ with Showtime. And if you want to subscribe to The Movie Channel, you still have to subscribe to Paramount+ with Showtime—which is unnecessarily confusing, because no one actually subscribes to The Movie Channel.

It’s important to understand, however, that despite the rebranding, you should not get used to calling it Paramount+, because Paramount is expected to merge with Skydance at some point, at which time there will probably be another rebranding, like: SkyMount. Or ParaSky. Or Dermot MulroneySky+.

How much do you hate me right now?
