Mickey Rourke Swears He Has Nothing To Do With That GoFundMe Account

Like most people, I completely forgot Mickey Rourke even exists, which is concerning because I literally wrote about him back in April. Does that say more about Rourke or me? Let's stop interrogating this. I don't want those answers.

Anyway, as Lainey mentioned in Pajiba Love on Sunday, Ol' Mick is back in the news following reports that a GoFundMe account was started to help him avoid eviction after he reportedly fell $60,000 behind on his rent. The story went surprisingly viral, and Mickey did not like that.

In a video posted to his Instagram on Monday evening, Rourke denounces any knowledge of the account and swears he would never ask fans for money. Via THR:

"Something's come up that I'm really frustrated, confused and I don't understand," Rourke, 73, says. "Somebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money. A charity.

"And that's not me. If I needed money I wouldn't ask for no charity. I'd rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger," he continues. "Whoever did this, I don't know why they did it. I wouldn't know what a GoFundMe is in a million years."

Rourke also vowed to get his attorney involved to ensure that everyone gets their money back.

"I would never ask strangers or fans for a nickel," Rourke said. "It's not my style. You ask anybody who knows me. It's humiliating and f***ing embarrassing... I want you to get your money back. All things will pass."

In what will come as a shock to no one, this whole production wasn't sprung on Mickey. The GoFundMe was started by his manager Kimberly Hines and her assistant. According to Hines, Mickey was on board with the whole thing until it became major entertainment news. As it turns out, Mickey absolutely will ask people for money, but he'd prefer it not be seen in every industry trade.

Here's what Hines told THR shortly after Mickey's denial:

So what happens now?

To be honest, Mickey doesn't have a bank account. He doesn't carry money. He sent me a WhatsApp message: "Kim, I'm forever grateful for all your help. I would never be able to do this all alone. I always love you for this. Thanks, Mick." So I'm doing what I can. And then he puts up a video that he doesn't want help. I mean, if he wants to send all the money back, send it back. I don't care. The money was for Mickey.

He's calling me for money. He's calling friends for money. A GoFund is set up for him, and now he's rejecting it? "OK, Mick, no problem." But nobody here has done anything wrong. It was done with a good intention, with a good heart. My assistant is 21 years old. Right now, I'm fronting the money for Mickey to get him out of this emergency situation.

According to Hines, none of the money in the GoFundMe account has been touched and will be refunded if Mickey wants to reject it. "If Mickey doesn't want the money, the money will go back. It's putting me in a very bad position where now I'm financing his move and the hotel and the movers and his storage. Mickey was cool with getting help the other day. And now Mickey's like, 'I'm not taking charity.'"

So that's that. My apologies for making everyone think about Mickey Rourke. I don't know what got into me. Is this what this new flu strain does? Should I see a doctor?
