I just want to laugh, y’all. I’m tired, my left knee has been acting weird, and staying up-to-date with current events is giving me anxiety. Then, when my kids are in bed, I just try to toss something on that I will enjoy, but I end up zoning out. If only a new film, maybe starring two comedic powerhouses, was on the way. Right? Doesn’t that sound nice? Maybe a romantic buddy action-comedy that’s being described as “When Harry Met Sally with guns?”

Okay, to be fair, that description isn’t a winner in and of itself. Sounds fun! I’m intrigued. But it’s more like an elevator pitch. Who’s in this thing? According to Deadline, it’s Keke Palmer, and that moves me from intrigued to excited. Keke is fantastic, and seeing her in a buddy comedy with the right person can do wonders for my mood (just look at One of Them Days). But who is going to join her on this ride? Scary Movie’s own Marlon Wayans!

Deadline describes the movie as such: “The feature project centers on robbery detective Martin Banks (Wayans), a consummate professional, and narcotics detective and unapologetic butt-kicker Tami Moore (Palmer). Sparks and bullets fly when these opposites are partnered to track down a billion-dollar cache of deadly opioids stolen from the vault of a multinational pharmaceutical company that threaten to flood the streets of Chicago.”

That’s a one-two punch that’s worth going to a movie theater for. The film, currently titled Ride or Die, was co-written by Wayans and Rick Alvarez, and the idea sounds like a lot of fun! Having two people as charismatic as Wayans and Palmer sounds like a, shall we say, rollicking good time. I’m just sold. This has the potential to be super funny, and I love that both of these hilarious people are working so much, even if that has led to a few clunkers.

They’re stars. They are allowed to have hits and misses just like any of their counterparts. Yes, I’m a little nervous about some corny police jokes. This may sound shocking to anybody living under a rock, but law enforcement isn’t the most fun topic right now. Still, there is potential here that will hopefully extend beyond one-liners about “not knowing Miranda or her rights,” or something along those lines.
