My son is in Gen Z and therefore doesn’t care about late-night television hosts, but he still dislikes Jimmy Fallon, whom he calls Jimmy No Laugh, because Fallon spelled backwards is … No Llaf. It’s perfect. Likewise, as I mentioned on Bluesky earlier, if late-night television hosts were all in the mob, Fallon would 100 percent be the snitch.
To wit: Andrew mentioned it in passing earlier today, but it bears repeating here: While all the other late-night hosts are standing up to this oppressive administration, Jimmy No Laff is taking the cowardly way out. While Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert are appearing on each other’s shows, and taking pictures with Seth Meyers to taunt the President, Jimmy has Greg Gutfeld on his show to reminisce about the time they got drunk at the same bar.
And Fallon isn’t even pretending to have a backbone, even as the President has called for his cancellation. In an interview with CNBC, Fallon specifically said that he’s keeping his “head down” amid the political unrest in the country.
“Our show’s never really been that political. We hit both sides equally, and we try to make everybody laugh, and that’s really the way our show really works. Our monologues are kind of the same that we’ve been doing since Johnny Carson was doing The Tonight Show.”
That’s some real solidarity there, Jimmy. See what I mean by the snitch vibe? If someone asked him to give up the goods on Meyers to save his own show, he wouldn’t bat an eye. He’d sing like a canary. Principles mean nothing to this man. I’m surprised he wasn’t in Riyadh over the weekend. If he’d been around in the 1950s, he’d have immediately given Kimmel, Meyers, Stewart, Oliver, and Colbert up to McCarthy’s Committee on Un-American Activities while insisting that he just wants to make everyone laugh.
Jimmy No Laff is the Burr of the Hamilton line: “I have never agreed with Jefferson once. We have fought on, like, seventy-five different fronts. But when all is said and all is done, Jefferson has beliefs. Burr has none.”
